Dr Walsh is the rare sort – he radiates compassion, even in the high stress department of Acute Medicine. He took the time to have a proper conversation with each of his patients. He not only had a bit of a laugh with me, but listened to me, asked thoughtful questions about both my condition and some medicine I take that’s technically contraindicated.
Dr Walsh also treated me like I have a brain, and even though I’m struggling to follow a full conversation at times right now, he never dumbed things down or talked down to me, just let me catch up. And then he sorted out all the changes previous doctors have made to my regular medication. (Shame that sense didn’t follow me when I moved wards a few hours later, but that’s not his fault at all.)
In short, Dr Walsh treated me like a human being rather than a problem to be solved and gotten rid of. And that is not only in short supply in an over-stretched NHS, but it really does help. He embodies what medicine should be.
Dr Walsh is very caring person and is very concerned about the patients he sees and his medical knowledge is extensive
Dr Walsh possess the traits that cannot be taught or bought- Compassion, empathy & a gentle, attentive bedside manner. Dr Walsh made me feel seen, heard and reassured. He is a wonderful doctor and I sincerely hope that the junior doctors learn from his exemplary example.
