After a year of lacklustre GP help I wasn’t full of hope. (Apologies, finally, to the one who sent me for an urgent appointment at the Royal Free.) Then referred to Barnet Hospital, I met the powerhouse that is Dr Penge. First impressions very proactive, physical live-wire with an active brain. Likes good coffee. Wants to get to the bottom of things. Halleluja.
Examination. Usual neurological stuff. He stopped abruptly and voiced the thought, “I know…I’m going to ambush someone.” Muttered something about can’t wait until next June for an appointment… rushed out of room. And came back triumphant. He moves fast, both literally and metaphorically. He thinks outside the box.
In the explanatory chat that followed I realised I was close to tears, not because I was sad but because, for the first time in nearly a year, I felt heard. I knew that Dr Penge was ‘on my side and ready to go the extra mile’. Indeed , within the hour I was
in the AAU. Stroke Clinic. Here we discovered a dangerous condition that, without immediate intervention could have resulted in a stroke. Good call, doc.
I vote we clone Dr Justin Penge.
